ANNOYING LONER-ANOTHER TRUE ROOMMATE STORY
I had transfered to a new college, and I had one good semester with two good roommates. However, we were sick of living in a triple, so next semester we decided to get doubles. They knew each other longer and decided to room together. The only other guy I knew who didn't have a roommate was someone I'll refer to as Stink (his last name was actually a synonym for smelly). I did know his last roommate moved out after the first semester, and he spent the second semester alone in a room which smelled awful by the end of the year.
I thought maybe I could prevent this if I stopped it early.... how wrong I was.In addition to being a slob, he was also an alcoholic (or at least aspiring to be). I started off by giving him fair warning that if he pukes on our carpet I would not clean it up and I reserved the right to punch him in the face. Unfortunately, this didn't come in handy.Anyways, one day I walk in the room to see a large ball of toilet paper with a face drawn on it in marker, sitting...

How to Proofread Like a Professional
Copyright 2006 Jaya Schillinger
Even as I wrote the title for this article, I got confused. Is "proofread" one word or two? I thought it was two, and my spell checker didn't have a problem with that, but when I double-checked myself with a popular on- line dictionary, I was able to catch my mistake. Proofread is in fact one word, "proof?read v. tr. To read (copy or proof) in order to find errors and mark corrections."
I'm not a grammarian or editor by any stretch of the definition, but I do get some practice through proofreading my own writing as well as my clients.
One of the value-added services I include in my business coaching packages is email support where I'll do a quick proofing of my clients' ad copy or important documents. So while I'm not a qualified copy editor/writer, I have noticed some common mistakes that slip past the typical business owner's own proofreading.
Here are a few things I've learned along the way:

"Rising Above the SEO Reputation"
How many times have you seen an article referring to SEO (search engine optimization) as a "Black Art" or "underhanded", "manipulative", "sleazy", "deceptive", "sneaky" etc?. I could go on and on but you get my drift. The thing is - our industry has a pitiful reputation which is being reinforced on a daily basis by the media and word of mouth. This realization hit me between the eyes recently when I read a comment in a search engine forum from an SEO who claimed he used his ethical SEO methods as a Unique Selling Point. Look what we've been reduced to - differentiating ourselves from the masses because we DON'T break the rules. What other industry could boast such a thing? Apart from the used car industry, I can't really think of any.So where did this nasty reputation come from and why has it been allowed to propogate? Well, it's mainly care of the hundreds of cowboys out there who decide one day they are online marketing experts, announce themselves as SEO's and set up a backyard biz,...

(ContentDesk) February 8, 2006 -- Aaron R. Thomas has been chosen as the lead designer to oversee the development of the new Wasser Klar acrylic furniture line.Throughout much of its history Wasser Klar has collaborated with top tier furniture designers in developing their lines. They have always sought out designers who have a penchant for acrylic and the ability to create fresh distinctive designs.
There are few artisans or designers who have mastered the acrylic medium.
Fewer still is the number of craftsmen who have extensive real world experience and the artistic sensibility needed to deliver designs that would meet the aesthetic and quality requirements of Wasser Klar.
With these requirements in mind, we sought out the creative talents of Aaron R. Thomas, a master craftsman in the realm of acrylic furniture design, to help with the expansion of our line, said Bob Kaplan, President of California Quality Plastics, parent company of Wasser Klar.????Aaron...

How to Plan a Vacations of the Mind
Part 1Recently, in a women's therapy group that I run, the desire for fun and a change of pace over took me. I suggested that we deviate from some of our typical work and instead go around the room imagining a vacation treat designed to suit each woman's desires. It was fascinating to see how many marvelous vacation ideas quickly emerged. One woman wished to go to Mexico and South America to view the ruins and lie on the sun in beautiful beaches. Another woman wished to go to Greece and see the ancient ruins there and then slowly make her way through Europe. This could take a leisurely period of time, perhaps even a year.
Another also wanted to go to Europe but to do other things, such as take gourmet cooking classes in the South of France and become somewhat fluent in several languages. Another woman opted for spas and other experiences to bring vitality to her body and ultimately her spirit. One person was in reality making plans to go to several meditative retreats over the...
